Microclimates on disturbed sites

Summary
In this research project, we are investigating the microclimate on newly created disturbed areas caused, for example, by storms, fires or insect infestations. A network of sensors on the ground provides us with precise data on temperature fluctuations within undisturbed forest and on disturbed sites. We analyze this data with the help of modern satellite images to model the temperatures on the forest floor for the whole of Germany. Our research makes it possible to better understand the effects of forest disturbances on the local climate and environment. In addition, we can gain important insights into the renewal of the forest after disturbance, which contributes to the development of sustainable forest management strategies.
