The effects of climate change are increasingly visible in changes in the precipitation and evapotranspiration regime, in prolonged dry periods with heat records, in increased flash floods, in restricted ecosystem functions, in a changing soil water balance, and in decreasing groundwater recharge rates. This results in considerable consequences for the entire local and regional water balance, Bavarian water management and water ecology.
In 2020, the Bavarian state government commissioned a committee of experts consisting of eight professors, among them Prof. Dr. Stephan Pauleit. The task of this expert commission was to develop design proposals for a future-proof water supply in the Free State of Bavaria.
The Expert Commission on Water has now submitted its final report to Bavaria's Minister of the Environment Thorsten Glauber.
