Stephan Pauleit's scientific focus is on the planning and sustainable development of natural and cultural landscapes, particularly in urban areas. In recent years, he has worked intensively on the adaptation of cities to climate change.
With the Bavarian State Medal, the Free State of Bavaria honours personalities, organizations and municipalities that have made a special commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development. Stephan Pauleit received the award for his work in the field of urban ecology and landscape planning. With numerous national and international projects, he has made a significant contribution to developing innovative approaches to dealing with the challenges of climate change.
“To ensure that we can continue to lead a life worth living in our cities and urban regions, we must succeed in reconciling the increasing demand for living space and green areas,” emphasized Environment Minister Glauber in his laudatory speech. Stephan Pauleit had helped with this future task with his knowledge, experience and commitment.
The award underlines the great importance of his research and the potential to create sustainable solutions for cities and municipalities through innovative approaches. After Chris-Carolin Schön, Professor of Plant Breeding, Stephan Pauleit is the second member of the TUM School of Life Sciences to receive the Bavarian Environmental Medal for outstanding services to the environment in 2024.
