Urban Forestry Research Group

Our research focus
Urban trees and forests provide important ecological, social and economic benefits. In our Research Group, we aim to expand the knowledge and develop innovative tools for evidence-based urban forest strategies and management towards sustainable and climate resilient cities.
We analyze the growth of trees in cities with focus on the relationships between growth, ecosystem service provision and growth conditions. We study the behaviour and functioning of common urban tree species related to species traits, local site conditions and climate. Our main study areas are allometric growth relationships, dendrochronology, tree physiology, modeling of tree growth and ecosystem services. We employ methods and techniques such as ecophysiological measurements (e.g. sap flow, porometer, dendrometer), terrestrial laser scanning and meteorology as well as remote sensing and basic forestry measurements.
