In cities there are many opportunities for biodiversity conservation, but several characteristics of large cities (e.g. urban heat, impervious surfaces and air pollution) induce stress on plants and pollinators. My PhD research aims to understand the effects of different urban stressors on intraspecific floral traits and plant-bee interactions in urban gardens. Furthemore, I look into how urban gardens can be managed to stimulate bee provision and wild bee conservation. I will work closely together with the Urban Productive Ecosystems group at TUM, as well as gardeners in community gardens in Munich and Berlin.
