Biodiversity and AI, support for field work wanted, Hiwi position for summer 2024
Project background:
Insects play a crucial role in ecosystems worldwide but are threatened by habitat loss, pesticide use, and climate change. To better understand and protect insect populations, it is necessary to develop effective methods to assess biodiversity. Traditional monitoring approaches are time-consuming and only provide snapshots of biodiversity. The AIforIBM project aims to address this challenge by developing non-lethal camera traps for insects and using artificial intelligence (AI) to automatically recognize, count, and identify insects based on their visual characteristics. This innovative approach aims to provide a more efficient and comprehensive way to monitor and protect insect biodiversity.
Your task:
We are looking for dedicated Hiwis for our upcoming field project who want to actively participate in the implementation. The selected candidates will be involved in the design of traps as well as the exchange of storage media. The traps will be set up over 2024 in three different regions, in the Swabian Alb, Hainich-Dün, and Schorfheide Schorin in areas of the Biodiversity Exploratories. We will spend 1-3 days in the respective exploratories.
Your profile
Willingness to work in the field: You should not be afraid of working outdoors and traveling long distances by car.
Dates:
13.05.2024 - 24.5.2024, 4.6.2024 - 13.6.2024, others on request
The respective Hiwi can decide whether they want to participate in one or all of those periods of time. If you are interested or need further information, please send an e-mail to robert.kuenast[at]tum.de.
