Gérard Xavier D. GBENOU
TUM Africa Talent Program
Gerard was part of The TUM Africa Talent program, which was first launched in 2022, is a research exchange program that brings together talented and highly motivated doctoral candidates from the sub-Saharan Africa region with professors and doctoral candidates at the Technical University of Munich (TUM).
Gérard Xavier D. GBENOU is a doctoral researcher in Ruminant Nutrition and Environment at Abomey-Calavi University in Benin. Originally a zootechnician, he is the author of several scientific articles. He is preparing a PhD on the direct measurement (GreenFeed, C-Lock Inc., USA) of enteric methane (eCH4) emissions in Sub-Saharan Africa. Understanding eCH4 emissions and local mitigation strategies is very crucial for decision-making and development in West African countries where data on this greenhouse gas is almost non-existent. During this thesis, the aim is firstly to produce knowledge and reference data on eCH4 emission factors. Secondly, it involves co-design options for sustainable mitigation of this gas with agropastoralists. Finally, practical and robust models will be established for the estimation of this gas in ruminants not only according to seasonality and diversity of resources but also to cattle breeds and their characteristics in Sub-Saharan Africa.
