Background & expertise
Yidan, from Anhui province (China), has completed a bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology at Central China Normal University (Wuhan, China) and a MSc. in Agricultural Biosciences at Technical University of Munich. She has a background in Precision Agriculture, with a focus on monitoring the dynamic changes in agroecosystems using digital technologies.
Joining the LSYS group as a PhD candidate, Yidan’s research focuses on integrating simulation modelling and foresight analysis to assess the potential of emerging digital technologies in supporting sustainable on-farm decision-making. Her work aims to enhance the sustainability of African livestock systems, addressing global challenges and societal demands. By employing production models (crop-grassland-livestock), economic models, and data science, Yidan’s research seeks to provide smallholder farmers with more effective farming strategies. These strategies will be tailored to climate change mitigation efforts and evolving market demands, ultimately improving both farmer incomes and animal welfare.
