Biography |
Dr. Astor Toraño Caicoya has been a researcher in the Department of Forest Growth and Yield at the Technical University of Munich since 2016 and is since 2024 part of the Chair on Tree Growth and Wood Physiology. After studying Forest Engineering at the University of Oviedo (2004) and Forestry (2007) at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, he moved to the Technical University of Munich in 2007, where he specialized in resource management. He completed his doctoral thesis at the Institute for Radar Concepts and Techniques of the German Aerospace Center, focusing on remote sensing and global forest dynamics. After obtaining his doctorate, he returned to the TUM where he focused on modelling forest dynamics and ecosystem services and their integration into the SILVA 3.0 forest growth simulator. Currently, his research focuses on the genetic diversity in the resilience of forest stands and the development of software to serve as a standard for forest assessment in the federal state of Bavaria, Germany. |
