Biography |
Peter Biber has studied forest science at the Ludwig-Maximilians University of Munich, where he also received his PhD (summa cum laude) for a study where he developed an empirical single tree based stand growth simulation model for mixed spruce beech stands in the Solling region. His ongoing habilitation “Contributions to a Multifunctional Sustainable Forest Management form a Forest Growth Perspective” has successfully passed the required interim evaluation in February 2024. From 1993-1996 he worked at the Northwest German Forest Station at Göttingen; after that he was appointed on a permanent post-doc position at the Chair of Forest Growth and Yield, Technical University of Munich He has been regularly involved in international research projects and teaching activities; at TUM he has been awarded the student prize for excellent teaching in 2018, 2019, and 2024. Since the mid 1990ies he is the executive editor of the European Journal of Forest Research. |
Research interests |
Peter Biber’s main research interests are contributing to our knowledge of tree and stand dynamics based on empirical information (especially from long-term research plots) and modelling/simulation methods. In addition, he sees a worthwhile challenge in making scientific knowledge available to practice by way of method and software development. |
