Biography |
S. Quinn McKinney (1999) is a Canadian environmental scientist and biologist from Edmonton, AB and a current PhD student at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). She completed her bachelor degree of Environmental Science, concentrating in ecology, biodiversity and conservation with a minor in German at Carleton University and her Master of Science in Biology, focusing on microbiology, ecology and plant sciences, at TUM under Prof. Dr. Mutez Ahmed. Quinn has a strong background in whole-plant drought responses, physiology, and ecology, with field experience at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI). Her research includes throughfall exclusion drought responses of Fagus sylvatica and Picea abies in Germany and Oryza sativa root hair development during field trials in the Philippines. At TUM, Quinn investigates when urban trees are becoming drought stressed and developing a model to better determine when the trees are stressed, so irrigation can be better timed to maximize growth while saving water. |
